The administration of US President Joe Biden has banned a pharmaceutical plant in Baltimore from producing Astra Zeneca vaccines. A few weeks ago, 15 million doses of Johnson & Johnson had to be destroyed at the plant due to improper mixing of ingredients, the New York Times reported.
Ingredients from Astra Zeneca and Johnson & Johnson are mixed, writes the New York Times. Due to what happened, the Food and Drug Administration is inspecting the factory. The Blatimore plant will now only produce Johnson & Johnson vaccine.
The New York Times also notes that US authorities have high hopes for preparing a dose of Johnson & Johnson to speed up the nation’s immunization program.
Astra Zeneca has said it will work with US authorities to find an alternative manufacturing facility. Its preparation has not yet been approved for use in the country.
