Queues and chaos with voting declarations in Turkey

Chaos and scandals in Turkey due to the declarations to be completed by every Bulgarian citizen who has decided to vote abroad. In front of the polling stations, there were people waiting to vote before the start of election day, BNR reported.

Tensions were reported in the Avcalar section, where a PEC meeting had to decide where to fill out the statements of citizens who wanted to vote. Unlike the previous elections, this time the emigrants from Bulgaria had the opportunity to complete declarations in advance, but they can also do so on the spot.

With 4 votes in favor and 3 against – the decision was to do it in advance, and to put only one signature before the PEC. Minutes after this decision, the defenders arrived at the section and a new meeting of the PEC was called, and the decision was changed: the statements will be completed in the section itself. At that time, the line of voters grew, along with the tension, and the section opened to vote after 8 p.m.

Today a curfew is in force in Turkey, which does not apply to Bulgarian voters. Those who vote with Bulgarian passports are not subject to the curfew imposed here and are free to go to the polls with their identity card. The Turkish police have been monitoring the polling stations since yesterday.

In some places minibuses are organized to transport them to the polling stations. And the early hours of election day did not live up to expectations that people would fear the pandemic and not turn out to vote en masse, as happened in previous elections in Turkey.

Traditionally, Turkey has the largest number of Bulgarian voters outside the country. This year, 21,000 people have completed preliminary statements and a vote is expected in all 35 sections of Turkey.

Election day lasts up to 20 hours with the possibility of extension to 21 hours. Long lines are expected in Istanbul, Bursa and especially in Corlu, where there are two sections, and the pre-registrations for voting are almost 2,000 for each. There, MEP and IMRO candidate Angel Djambazki will vote.

The statements are filled out, and for those who find it difficult, there is a group of people to help them.
