Max Verstappen won qualifying for the Bahrain Grand Prix in F1. The Dutch Red Bull driver posted the fastest lap in 1: 28.997, more than three tenths better than Lewis Hamilton. Mercedes co-driver Valteri Botas finished third.

The air temperature in the first classification for the 2021 season was 30 degrees, and that of the track – 35. The humidity was 42%.

The first cars on the track in Q1 were Haas and Williams on soft tires.
The first leader in the session was Mick Schumacher with a lap of 1: 33.861, while his teammate Nikita Mazepin made the lap during their tour. Russell and Latifi returned to boxing and did not record time. Soon after, all the other teams appeared on the track to record good enough times.
After the first attempts of the pilots, the first position was occupied by Max Verstappen with 1: 30.499. Behind him were Tsunoda, Hamilton, Gasley, Pérez and Boots. In addition to Haas and Williams, Esteban Okon of the Alpin team was in the danger zone. At the end of the first qualifying round, some of the competitors tried to improve their times, as George Russell found a place in the top 10. Nikita Mazepin turned again at the first corner and caused the yellow flags to be waved. In the end, those who dropped out in Q1 were Esteban Ocon, Nicolas Latifi, Sebastian Vettel, Mick Schumacher and Nikita Mazepin. Carlos Sainz remained in 15th position after struggling on the curbs and receiving vibrations in his Ferrari.

At the beginning of Q2, Valteri Botas hit the track on medium tires. Immediately after him, all the cars came out of the pits and onto the track. Max Verstappen complained about a radio problem. Boots recorded the fastest first time, but was immediately replaced by Verstappen and Hamilton. All three had medium hard tires. Impressed by Pierre Gasley, who gave the eighth time also on medium tires, while Ferrari’s were on soft. The laps of Sergio Pérez and Daniel Ricciardo were canceled for going beyond the white lines of the track. At the same time, Williams of the Williams team had never left his garage.

In the final minutes of the second segment of qualifying in Bahrain, the drivers took to the track again in an attempt to improve their performance. Pierre Gasley gave up the third time and Giovinazzi reached sixth place. After the big changes in the column, Sergio Pérez, Antonio Giovinazzi, Yuki Tsunoda, Kimi Raikkonen and George Russell did not find a place in the third qualifying round. The fastest were Ferrari drivers Carlos Sainz and Charles Löckler.

Immediately after the start of Q3, everyone was on the track with the smoothest Pirelli mix in an attempt to make the rounds faster. The first leader was Ricciardo, who was immediately replaced by Gasley, Hamilton and Verstappen, who surpassed the world champion by 23,000. The drivers who did not register times were Leclerc and Alonso.

A little over two minutes before the final of qualifying, everyone was back on track. Verstappen had a record first sector, Boots did not improve his position, Hamilton moved Max from the first position. However, the Dutchman posted an incredible lap of 1: 28.997 and won the first qualifying for the 2021 season in F1. Boots finished third, followed by Leclerc, Gasley, Ricciardo, Norris, Sainz, Alonso and Stroll.
