Bulgaria is on top of the world in terms of mortality due to hidden morbidity, Gen. Mutafchiiski explained.

Burgas and Silistra are in the first places in terms of morbidity from COVID-19 due to the climatic characteristics and the early entry of the British strain. In both districts, those infected are already around 900 per 100,000 inhabitants.

Humid air is trapped in both cities and long-lasting fogs form, which are favorable for lung diseases. The main reason, however, is the early penetration of the British version, which is ten times more contagious, doctors say.

The first samples of this variant tested in our country are from December in Kyustendil. They are in Burgas a month ago, said RHI epidemiologist Dr. Velichka Grigorova. A few weeks later, the city had to introduce night classes until 8 pm for minors and make the use of masks and outdoors mandatory.

Attitude also contributes to the outbreak of the infection.

“There are people who do not go to the doctor at all, others do, but they hide the infection. Others self-medicate and seek medical attention when they get worse, “said Silistra hospital chief Dr. Vasil Slavov.

The situation is currently expected and there is no way to change in the middle of the third wave. On the contrary, it can get worse. The doctor said 10 beds were vacated a day and about 50 patients were diagnosed. The hospital is already installing modular facilities to serve as new wards.

“The incidence of COVID-19 in the period of 10 to 11 weeks in the Silistra region is 880 per 100,000 inhabitants. Almost all age groups are covered, ”summarized RHI Director Dr. Teodora Nacheva. In terms of the number of infected, the district ranks second after Sofia in the last 24 hours.

The Sofia Operational Headquarters ordered to intensify inspections for compliance with measures in food chains, points of sale, open-air markets and public transport. The teams that will monitor the use of masks in transportation are increasing.

400 to 450 patients a day pass through the 9 metropolitan polyclinics with COVID offices. Beds have been increased in the five municipal hospitals.

The situation throughout the country remains critical. People with COVID in the hospital have already passed 9000 and 743 of them are in serious condition. 70% of intensive care beds are occupied. The incidence for the entire country on March 23 was 679 against 667 per 100,000 inhabitants on November 23, when it was the November record, said Chief of Staff Gen. Ventsislav Mutafchiiski. On a two-week basis, the number of patients was 661 per 100,000 people.

Over the past week, patients increased 23%, and over 14 days, 73%, Mutafchiiski added. For comparison, last week the figures were 40 and 94 percent, respectively. The growth of those hospitalized remains high, since the number of hospital admissions increased by 17% from last Thursday until yesterday, and that of those in intensive care units, by 22%.

Mortality

reached 20 in

and Bulgaria is at the forefront of the world. However, the reason for this was hidden morbidity, Gen. Mutafchiiski explained.

“Now entire families are sick and only the worst are going to be tested. The RHI’s capacity, on the other hand, has not been able to monitor patient contacts since the summer. If all this is taken into account and equated, then the death rate in Bulgaria will not be that high, ”explained the Chief of Staff.

Despite the difficult situation, the first signs of retention of the wave were reported by the Chief of State Health Inspectors, Prof. Angel Kunchev. After a sharp jump to nearly 5,000 new patients a day, the numbers have remained high for several days in a row, but they range from 4,300 to 4,500.

“There has not been a strong increase in recent days. But if we allow a flagrant breach of the measures, we have a horizon to double morbidity and the situation to become critical,” he warned.
