The European Parliament rejected an amendment against Bulgaria in a document on North Macedonia, BNT reported.
The amendment was proposed by MEPs from the Socialist and Democratic groups. The EP is said to condemn recent provocative statements by Bulgarian government representatives on historical issues with North Macedonia.
Such statements contradict the neighborhood agreement. The Bulgarian representatives were urged to refrain from holding these positions.
Bulgarian MEPs from all groups spoke out against the amendment. The rapporteur for the resolution was Ilhan Kyuchuk.
He said it was important that the contracts be implemented. This requires more frequent meetings between the two countries.
It is important that Bulgaria and North Macedonia enter into a dialogue.
