In the middle of the third wave of the pandemic, a NOVA team entered one of the busiest hospitals, St. Anna’s in Sofia. Reporter Krassimir Boev and cameraman Rosen Iliev spent several shifts with the hospital’s medical teams.
“I still can’t get rid of what I went through there. It’s very difficult to know what was seen there. I found not only COVID-19, but also strokes, heart attacks, and severe body aches for which there is no explanation. At the same time , there are doctors who manage to manage so that everyone receives the help they need, ”says Krasi Boev.
THE THIRD WAVE: A story about the 24-hour battle of life and death
“In front of the Emergency Department from one wheelchair there is a man with a heart attack, in the other – with a stroke … Everything comes here and is distributed to every part of the hospital,” said Dr. Emilian Gulev.
Gergina is one of many who suffered from COVID-19. “You can’t think and your body doesn’t obey. I went through hell in particular,” he says.
“We lost a lot of people and I know why. This happened due to the late start of the healing process. Then the target organ we are treating will disappear. That is, there is no lung,” say doctors from the COVID department.
More than 9,000 people with COVID-19 in Bulgaria are treated in hospital
“Approximately 65 COVID-19 patients have been discharged from our ward in the last 22 days. Compared to the previous wave, there are many families in the hospital together in this wave,” says Dr. Venelin Dimitrov.
