The impact took place on Monday night on a wet but sandy stretch of road where overtaking is prohibited.
“Suddenly my seat flipped over and I got under the other one. It all happened in seconds. I got the other passengers out by breaking one of the bus windows. My father was a bus driver and I know how it works,” Bilgul said.
The 20-year-old girl had to sit in the front of the bus, where the passenger who died in the frontal collision actually was. Seeing that he has taken her place, she takes another back seat. That saves her.
“I was meant to sit somewhere in the back. Thank God I got rid of it,” he says.
Bilgul, who is studying to be a nurse, helps two of the passengers in front of her.

After the incident, the Sofia-Varna highway was closed for more than 8 hours. Numerous tests are pending to determine the exact cause of the accident. One of the inspections will aim to clarify whether the two vehicles were technically sound. A forensic examination should show whether any of the drivers have consumed alcohol.
