The Chinese armed forces have banned Tesla cars from entering their sites, arguing that they pose security risks due to the cameras installed on them, Reuters reported.

The order instructs Tesla car owners to park their cars off army-owned sites. Residents of military homes were informed of the ban this week, Bloomberg reported.

According to the Wall Street Journal, the Chinese government is restricting access to Tesla cars to military and state companies in security-related industries and key government agencies because they could lead to a leak of national security information.

Shares of Tesla, which rose more than eight times last year, fell nearly 2 percent at the start of trading on the New York Stock Exchange.

Tesla cars are popular in China and are made in a factory in Shanghai. They have several small external cameras that help with parking and driving.
