In Bulgaria this happened on March 12. Until then, there are 174,199 people vaccinated with AstraZeneca in Bulgaria.
Is there a danger of not getting a second dose of the drug? And what alternatives would they have?
On February 26, Simeon received the first dose of AstraZeneca, during the so-called green corridors. He had no preference for the preparation with which he would be immunized. A second needle is expected to be received in early May. And several studies show that the more time that passes between the first and second needles, the more effective the immunization.
“The effectiveness of the vaccine is a little more than 80% when both doses are administered at intervals of at least 12 weeks, and it is less when this interval is 6 weeks, so it is approximately 55%”, explained Professor Radostina Alexandrova to NOVA. .
The question of whether those vaccinated will receive a second dose of AstraZeneca arose after several deaths of people immunized with the drug were reported in Europe. “For the entire vaccination period, which began in mid-December, with more than 92 million doses of vaccine administered, practically no
about 1,650 deaths, but in none of these cases is there a connection to the vaccine itself“,
added Prof. Alexandrova.
After the AstraZeneca vaccination was discontinued, some of Dr. Georgi Mindov’s patients refused to receive any vaccinations. However, those vaccinated with the first dose of the Oxford vaccine are still waiting. And one of the big questions remains: if immunization with AstraZeneca is not resumed, is it possible to give a second dose of another vaccine?
“These combinations have not been tested at this time and it is not known how they will affect the immune response elicited by vaccines,” explained Professor Alexandrova.
“There is a third option –
stick with a dose
and recognize that we have a test from an antibody laboratory and be entitled to a certificate, ”says Dr. Georgi Mindov.
