Already 14 European countries have refused to vaccinate their populations with AstraZeneca, causing strong tensions. Blood clots are reported in the UK relatively more often after Pfizer than after AstraZeneca, meaning that no vaccine has an unusual level of risk.
Scientists continue to claim that blood clotting and vaccines have nothing in common.
Fourteen European countries, after some hesitation, have turned their backs on the Oxford vaccine, including France, Germany, Italy and Spain. This created a disturbing mistrust in the properties of AstraZeneca and raised fears that this vaccine predisposes to blood clots and their life-threatening complications.
But countries don’t have an explanation for why there are relatively more cases after Pfizer in the UK.
Yesterday, European Union regulators gave an explanation for the lack of evidence of any relationship between the vaccine and unwanted blood clotting. No vaccine has side effects beyond the mild cases previously announced before the administration of the vaccine.
The European Medicines Agency (EMA) has confirmed its belief that vaccination with AstraZeneca should continue.
