Turkey reports highest daily increase in COVID-19 infections in 2021 – Balkans

Turkey has recorded 14,941 new coronavirus cases in the past 24 hours, the largest daily increase this year, Reuters reported, citing health authorities.

Data shows that 66 people have died from COVID-19 in the past 24 hours, bringing the total to 29,356. The daily number of infections has nearly doubled in the past month. According to authorities, the increase is due to new varieties of the virus, BTA reported.

Last week, President Recep Tayyip Erdogan announced the partial opening of schools, cafes and restaurants. So far, 2,850,930 infections have been recorded in Turkey. About 10.87 million doses of the COVID-19 vaccine have been administered in the country of 83 million.
