A freight train car turned on the Tvarditsa – Shivachevo interstation, part of the third main railway line Sofia – Karlovo – Burgas, reports Nova TV.
Serious damage occurred on approximately 3,100 meters of track. Recovery will take 8-10 days. There are no reports of casualties.
The 16th car of a 17-car freight train carrying sand derailed, according to the National Railway Infrastructure Company.
The movement of trains on the section has been suspended.
Express trains are diverted through Tulovo – Zmeyovo – Stara Zagora – Zimnitsa, and passengers of passenger trains are transported by buses on the section between Tvarditsa and Shivachevo.
Emergency crews and specialized equipment from the National Railway Infrastructure Company are on site to clear the railway line route from the derailed wagon and begin restoration activities on the destroyed railway.
A commission has been appointed to investigate the causes of the accident and assess the damage to the infrastructure.
