The World Health Organization published on Friday an official recommendation for the emergency use of the coronavirus vaccine at meetings of the US company “Johnson & Johnson” (Johnson & Johnson) in all countries of the world, Reuters reported.
“Each new, safe and effective tool against COVID-19 is one more step towards controlling the pandemic, but the hope that these tools offer will not materialize unless vaccines are available to all people in all countries,” commented the Director-General of WHO. Tedros Gebreyesus.
He also called on governments and companies around the world “to honor their commitments and use all decisions at their disposal to increase vaccine production.”
This is the third coronavirus vaccine, after those from Pfizer / BioNTech and AstraZeneca, which is supported by the WHO.
The WHO approval comes a day after the European Medicines Agency and the European Commission authorized the use of the J&J vaccine within the EU.
Johnson & Johnson vaccine is used as a single dose and recent studies have shown it to be 85% effective in preventing severe cases of COVID-19.
