Italy to produce 10 million doses of Russia’s Sputnik V
Residents vaccinated against COVID-19 in the European Union will have vaccination passports in May, after the project for them is ready around March 17, Czech Foreign Minister Tomas Petricek was quoted as saying by TASS.
The passports will contain information on the dates their holders were vaccinated, the type of vaccines and the coronavirus tests performed. The documents will be digital and will be stored on smartphones. Special devices will read them in seconds when passports are required.
Israel has already introduced a system of digital “green passports”, analogous to those in Europe.
Italy will produce the Russian Sputnik V vaccine after an agreement was signed between Russia’s Direct Investment Fund and Lugano-based pharmaceutical company Adien, Reuters reported. Launch is in June and 10 million doses are expected to be produced.
According to AFP, Russia has harshly criticized a statement by a representative of the European Medicines Agency (EDA), which compared the emergency authorization of “Sputnik V” of some European countries with “Russian roulette”.
The Russian vaccine in question ranks fourth in the world in the number of countries and territories that use it. See how vaccines are distributed according to this indicator in the Graphic News infographic.
