Juventus team defeated Porto s 3: 2 after overtime in a Champions League knockout rematch, but this was not enough to qualify for the quarterfinals. The Dragons won the first game at home with 2: 1, and the two goals on foreign soil put them ahead in the most prestigious European club tournament.

In the first half, the guests were significantly better on the team and naturally went ahead with a goal from Sergio Oliveira from a penalty. After the break, however, Juventus came out transformed and soon regained parity through Federico Chiesa. In the 53rd minute, Mehdi Taremi received a second yellow card and left the field prematurely. With one man less, the “dragons” quickly collected a new goal from Chiesa, which formed the total score of 3: 3 in both games and scored the game in extra time. There the drama became even greater, as in the 115th minute Sergio Oliveira scored from a free kick, and just two minutes later Adrien Rabio kept his team’s hopes alive, bringing the overall score to 4: 4.

The guests started hard and fired their first shot seconds after the first referee’s signal. Mateus Uribe shoots from the edge of the area but sends the ball out of the way. Juventus responded instantly with an experience with the head of Álvaro Morata, but Agustín Marcesín showed a great reflection and reflected.

A shot from Taremi followed, which was blocked by the opposing defense. Seconds later, he struck again with a heavy blow, hitting Szczesny’s crossbar.

In the 18th minute, the situation became even more complicated for the Bianconeri, after a late action by Merich Demiral led to a penalty for the guests. Sergio Oliveira took the lead from the penalty spot, sending the ball into the lower corner and overtaking Porto.

In added time in the first half, Wojciech Szczesny had to react to protect his goal from another goal. Oliveira cleared space in the penalty area and fired instantly, but guard Bianconeri managed.

The second half started perfectly for Juve, who regained the tie just 4 minutes after the restart. Cristiano Ronaldo sent a precise pass into the penalty area, where Federico Chiesa intercepted and with a brilliant shot in the upper corner restored his team’s hopes.

In the 53rd minute Mehdi Taremi received a second yellow card, respectively red, and left his team with one man less. The “Dragons” player knocked down an opponent and received a rather controversial official warning from Bjorn Kuipers.

Two minutes after Taremi’s expulsion, the “Old Lady” organized a great attack, which ended with a shot on the beam. Federico Chiesa fired point-blank, but only found the side post. After an hour of play, no one, but again Federico Chiesa scored for Juve. The Italian intercepted a pass from Juan Cuadrado and with a new header put the Bianconeri ahead in the result.

The hosts tried to take advantage of the momentum of their game and made hit after hit. Adrien Rabio controlled a pass around the area and fired, but Marcesín saved.

In the last minutes of regulation time, both teams did their best to win the match. At first, Chiesa came close to scoring her hat-trick, but Marcesin was denied. Soon after, Musa Marega opened room for a shot, but his attempt was deflected from Szczesny’s goal.

To complete the drama, in added time Álvaro Morata sent the ball into the “dragons” net, but after an examination with the VAR the goal was annulled by an ambush. Seconds later, Quadrado came close to scoring a save in overtime. With his left foot, the Colombian spun the ball almost perfectly as the ball bounced off the crossbar.

Porto was better in extra time and only in the 100th minute Marega wasted a great opportunity to realize it for his team. The Frenchman played with his head, but his shot was too weak and easily deflected by Szczesny.

In the 110th minute Deyan Kulushevski showed individual class and delivered a promising shot that was nevertheless blocked at the last minute by the opposing defense. Porto’s response was very quick, but Marko Gruic’s shot was also blocked.

In the 115th minute Sergio Oliveira scored a free-kick and with a powerful shot to the ground sent the ball into the net of Szczesny, who could have intervened much better. Just two minutes later, Juventus returned a goal through Adrien Rabio, who intercepted a cross from a corner kick and surprised Marcesín.

Thus, for the second consecutive year, the “Old Lady” says goodbye to her ambitions in the Champions League in the eighth final phase. For their part, Sergio Conceição’s boys keep dreaming.
