Starting July 12, all cars will have a sticker with a chip for an environmental group other than the manufacturer’s environmental category. After an annual technical inspection, it will be attached to the car’s windshield behind the rear view mirror.

This was explained by the director of the Executive Agency “Automobile Administration” Boyko Ranovski at BNT. According to him, this will increase the cost of the exam by no more than BGN 5.

There will be 5 eco-friendly groups, with only electric and hybrid cars at the top. The measurements will show which car belongs to which group, regardless of the manufacturers’ data, notes offnews.bg.

The stickers will be placed only on cars, and their purpose is – in dirty air, the mayors of municipalities to impose restrictions on the circulation of more pollutants. The restricted zones will be determined by the mayors and do not have to coincide with the existing blue and green zones, Ranovski explained. Cameras will be placed in the restricted areas, which can read the ecological information on the sticker chip. Municipalities will also determine the amount of fines for violators.

Those who will undergo a technical inspection after July 12 will have to go to a checkpoint only to be assigned an eco-group so they can enter Sofia, Ranovski explained.

Starting in 2022, the rules under which the technical inspection will be carried out will also change. It will no longer depend on the equipment at the control points, and these will send data to the Automobile Administration, from where they will give permission for the car to pass the inspection.

Starting next year there will be new requirements for taxis. There will be a price for time and a price for movement, and not, as now, a price for a stay. This will protect the rights of consumers, who will be able to calculate the time the car travels, detect when they get into the taxi and when they get out. Now only the device determines how long it should stay, Ranovski explained.
