Due to the incident at the OD of the Interior Ministry, today Sofia received a short briefing from the district attorney Natalia Nikolova and the director of the Regional Directorate of the Interior Ministry, Senior Commissioner Nikolay Spasov.
A drunk driver was sitting behind the wheel of the car that crashed last night on the Botevgrad – Vrachesh highway, announced by the Ministry of the Interior and the Prosecutor’s Office. His partner, veterinarian Dr. Delchev, was killed in the car collision in a roadside tree.
The driver was transferred to the Sofia District Hospital. His alcohol test showed 3 per thousand. The 42-year-old man is a repeat offender. He was convicted twice of drunk driving. Only in the last year there have been 19 acts of various violations. “Extremely aggressive driver. Sooner or later he was going to kill someone,” said ODMVR-Sofia Director Senior Commissioner Nikolay Spasov.
“Cases of drunk and drugged drivers are increasing. The prosecution has proposed to the executive and the legislature to increase the penalties for them, as well as to impound their cars,” recalled the district attorney Natalia Nikolova.
The drunk driver passed him, he couldn’t get back into his lane, the car turned and hit a tree. He has been arrested and will be charged with causing the death of Dr. Delchev.
