Zanzibar is a semi-autonomous region and island in the Indian Ocean. Although officially it belongs to Tanzania, in almost every aspect – politics, religion, culture and even food – it differs from this country, writes “National Geographic”.
The island has become like the native “Sunny Beach for our bartenders”.
The Swahili people, who also speak the language of the same name, live on the east coast of Africa and its islands.
And while in mainland Tanzania there are Christians, Muslims and locals, in Zanzibar, ruled by Oman for centuries, the population is almost entirely Muslim.
Today, in most towns and cities, where the majority are Swahili, mosques are the basis of life and Islam is preached. However, some communities include elements of traditional African beliefs in their religion.
What are the options to travel there, read on pochivka.blitz.bg.
