The United Nations has said it has asked the United Arab Emirates for proof that the daughter of the Emir of Dubai, Princess Latifa, is still alive. She claims to have been held captive and fears for her life in videos released this week by British media. BTA reported: citing AFP.
Liz Trosel, spokeswoman for the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights, said at a press conference that the issue of Princess Latifa was raised yesterday with the Permanent Mission of the United Arab Emirates in Geneva. “We share our concern about the situation given the alarming videos that appeared this week. We ask for more information and clarification on the current situation,” said Princess Latifa.
“We asked for proof that she was alive,” he said. Furthermore, due to serious concerns about the fate of Princess Latifa, “we ask the government to prioritize its response,” he added. The 35-year-old daughter of the Emir of Dubai and Prime Minister of the United Arab Emirates, Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, tried to escape the country into the Gulf in 2018 before being captured and returned. Her relatives posted videos in which she claimed that she was in a “prison turned prison” with walled windows and under the protection of policemen. They say they have already lost contact with her.
