Ivan Petrov, 33, who killed his accomplice in the theft of a collection vehicle in Sofia in 2016, will stand trial for the attack in which 400,000 BGN was seized, discovered after the discovery of the Kalashnikov. Petrov already has a sentence for assaulting his partner: 18 years in prison in the first instance.

Ivan and his friend Petar Valeriev attacked the collection vehicle on February 22, 2016 in the parking lot of The Mall in the capital. During the robbery, Petrov pointed a Kalashnikov assault rifle at one of the car’s guards, fired five shots and hit him in the back. So Peter and I picked up one of the sacks in the car and ran away.

For 3 years, forensic scientists worked on the case without success. In November 2019 the body of a man was found. It turned out to be Petar Valeriev. It was still unclear at the time that he was one of the collection thieves. During the investigation of the crime in a lake near Burgas, the machine gun was found. It turned out that Petar Valeriev was killed with this weapon. Soon after, Ivan Petrov was arrested for execution. The reason is financial: the victim owed the killer money.

There were no serial numbers on the machine. After a comparative analysis of the casings found at the crime scenes in Sofia and Burgas, as well as the biological material, it was clear that it was the robbery machine gun. Ivan quickly confessed to both crimes, as well as the fact that Peter was his accomplice in the attack on the collection. He has already been sentenced to 18 years in prison in the first instance for the murder. He also has to pay BGN 490,000 in blood money to Valeriev’s relatives.
