At night it will accumulate up to 20 cm of snow, there is a risk of ice formation.

Road conditions have deteriorated dramatically tonight. The snowfall has already started in the southwestern regions of the country, which has imposed a temporary restriction on the movement of trucks of more than 12 tons through the Predela Pass.

More than 15 trucks got stuck on the international highway heading to the Geshevo border checkpoint in the area above the town of Zhilentsi. The snow cover in the area is about 10 cm, but the low temperatures below zero are the reason for the formation of the ice cover, which makes it difficult for trucks to move.

The Road Infrastructure Agency calls on drivers not to go to the Kulata and Ilinden-Exohi border checkpoints. Due to the snowfall, Greece banned vehicles weighing more than 3.5 tons from the Kulata border checkpoint.

In order not to form a column of trucks on the Struma highway, drivers must postpone their departure to the Kulata border checkpoint until the Greek border authorities lift the ban. All vehicles are restricted from entering through the Ilinden-Exohi border checkpoint.

Dozens of truck drivers will most likely spend the night at the Kulata-Promahon border crossing. A one kilometer queue of trucks has already formed at the checkpoint.

Even heavier rains are expected at night. The snow cover will be between 5 and 20 centimeters.

Most of the snow will fall in the Rila Rhodope region. Due to low temperatures, ice formation is possible, and on mountain roads and snow storms.

The Road Infrastructure Agency is ready to temporarily close sections for cleaning. From there, they warn drivers to leave with cars prepared for winter conditions.

Tomorrow in 19 districts in western, central and southern Bulgaria: Montana, Vratsa, Lovech, Gabrovo, Veliko Tarnovo, Pernik, Sofia – city, Sofia region, Plovdiv, Stara Zagora, Sliven, Burgas, Kyustendil, Blagoevgrad, Pazardzhik, Smolyan, Kardzhali, Haskovo and Yambol, a yellow code has been announced for potentially dangerous weather conditions due to heavy snowfall and low temperatures. There will be conditions for ice, gusts and formation of cliffs.

The county road administrations control the meteorological forecasts by region and treat the sidewalks against slipping and icing. All the machines of the highway maintenance companies are in full mobilization to clear snow on Republican roads. There are aggregates in the bases: salt, sand, calcium dichloride.
