Millionaire deposits have increased by 151 in 2020, despite the pandemic and the crisis caused by it. This follows from BNB data released on Wednesday.
The increase in deposits by more than 1 million in them is a record since the central bank published statistics on them. Most of the new proven millionaires expire in the last quarter of 2020. Then their number increases by 110 on an annual basis. This means that every day a person opened a deposit with more than 1 million BGN.
Their total number at the end of 2020 is 1180. In December 2019 there were 2.5 billion BGN, in September 2020 the amount was already 2.640 million BGN and by December 2020 it becomes 3 billion BGN. This means that there is an average of 2.54 million BGN in a deposit.
Three months before the end of 2019, the accounts with 500 thousand to 1 million in them were 1798, a year later their number is already 1913, and at the end of December they are already 2106.
However, 423,468 deposits with up to BGN 1,000 were settled. The total amount in them was BGN 28.4 million, the main reason for this is their retirement to cover current needs. Probably some of the money in these deposits has increased and they have passed to a higher group, up to BGN 2,500, whose number has increased by more than 40,000.
Uncertainties about the duration and severity of the crisis have made large borrowers more cautious. In December 2019, 135 people took loans for more than 1 million BGN, and a year later there were 132, and at the end of 2020 – 117. And the people who received loans of half a million to a million are, 525 and only one more . at the end of December 2020 compared to a year ago.
At the end of 2020, banks had 9.9 million deposit accounts. In them, companies and individuals have a total of 90.3 billion BGN, 10% more than in December 2019. In the last three months of last year there was a clear consolidation of deposits. According to BNB statistics, the number of deposits increased by 0.7% and the money in them – by 4.2%. The largest number of deposit accounts belongs to households: 9.4 million, in which there are 61 billion leva.
The loans granted represent a little more than half of the GDP for the year, their total amount is BGN 61.5 billion and they were received through 2.9 million credit accounts, according to the data. At the end of December 2020, compared to the previous quarter, their number decreased by 1.6% and their size increased by 2%.
