Is Dogan afraid that they will finally ask for the bill? Is that why you now need parliamentary immunity? Or do you want to see the triumphant return of the MRF from the front row in parliament?
After Ahmed Dogan preferred to remain in the shadows for years, the party structures in Kardzhali appointed the honorary chairman of the MRF as a deputy. Won’t the parliamentary elections on April 4 mark the return of the architect of the MRF to Bulgarian politics? What are the reasons for this move and what could be the consequences?
“The MRF is my other self. That’s why I have nowhere to run away from the party and I don’t want to, because the MRF is 28 years old. This is a quote from Dogan’s melodramatic farewell speech on January 19, 2013. However, we would be wrong to see a prophecy come true in these words: this is an acknowledgment that Dogan is an integral part of the movement’s DNA. . Dogan never left. The real power in the MRF remains with him to this day. Maybe now you want to go back in through the front door.
The reason for Dogan’s return to parliament may be his fear that the constellation of interests there will finally decide to hand him the bill. In such a scenario, parliamentary immunity could serve as an umbrella or lifeline for Dogan.
“Democratic Bulgaria”, “There are such people” and “Get up! Get out!” They declared themselves categorically against the GERB-MRF model. Ninova’s socialist conservatism, which firmly positions the BSP in the patriotic niche, is trying to thwart collaborationist attempts on the Centennial with the Borisov and Dogan (Karadayi) parties, but Positano’s fifth column continues to bubble under the surface. Whether the 45th parliament will inspect Dogan’s stables in Augean and the MRF will depend, of course, on the election results, the consistency and determination of the current opposition.
However, Dogan will only need the parliamentary immunity airbag as a last resort. The honorary president’s limousine is perfectly armored and continues to move steadily, undisturbed by anyone, on the roads built by Borisov.
The ethnic party has penetrated deep into the foundations of the Bulgarian Themis. The judiciary, for example, procrastinated in the Dogansaray case. The prosecution sent the investigation into the murder of arms dealer Gebrev to a third party. There are indications that in the clash between the interests of Dogan / Peevski and Gebrev, the state is assuming the role of bodyguard for MRF (former Defense Minister Noev even claims that Gebrev’s clients are at the highest levels of the executive branch) .
It is possible, as often happens in our country, that the outcome comes from outside. In the Czech Republic there is a criminal process underway on the subject of the scandalous agreement with which Dogan de facto acquired the Varna TPP; According to the Czech MP Lukasz Wagenknecht, there are data that CEZ was harmed by him for 323 million euros.
Amid the 2020 protests, the Bulgarian government dismissed the Dogan and Peevski guards. Borissov allegedly cleared MRF’s cabinet of ministers and formally removed the cold reserve of the honorary president. However, in late 2020, the Sofia City Prosecutor’s Office decided that there was no evidence of crimes committed in the signal sent by Wagenknecht for the Varna TPP deal. However, if the investigation involving Dogan’s name gains momentum in the Czech Republic, no guarantees will be needed for the honorary president.
It is also possible that Bulgaria’s NATO allies, especially the United States, will eventually decide to take down the energy loners of the MRF, in which Moscow also appears to be involved.
The reason for Dogan’s return may be his desire to watch (and continue to drive) from the front row in parliament at the resurgence of the MRF. The party is in great shape after reconciling with Erdogan and, with his belated blessing, defeating Mestan’s dangerous rival DOST. The MRF is likely to reap a rich harvest on April 4, approaching its peak election years, when it received more than 400,000 votes.
The MRF’s strong performance in parliamentary elections will increase its appetites and ambitions for power. But it is unlikely that there will be ministers of the movement in the next government, even if it is formed, for example, with a mandate from GERB. Almost all parties in our country are fleeing the embrace of the ethnic party. However, the partnership between Borissov and Dogan parties will be maintained in areas such as energy (it is believed that together they will continue to have levers in the Kozloduy NPP, NEK, the Electric System Operator, Bulgartransgaz, TPP Maritza East 2). “,” Bulgargaz “and the Bulgarian Energy Holding), and may even increase, especially if the other players form a sanitary cordon directed against them.
It seems logical that GERB and MRF also play together in the presidential elections. The MRF did not “name” Radev as president: the difference between him and Tsetska Tsacheva in the second round of 2016 was 800,000 votes, far more than the potential of the movement. However, if by the end of 2021 Radev’s request for a new term fails, the MRF, which has already stated that it will not endorse him, will take credit, rightly or wrongly. Dogan did not miss the opportunity: he put on his ceremonial uniform, went up to the rostrum, playfully greeted the audience to fix, for a time, the pulse of the morphic resonance.
