A trained and experienced mountaineer is the fallen tourist rescued on the Belasitsa mountain. Emil Georgiev is a former fighter and maintained a very good sporting form. He slipped and fell off a 300-meter cliff in the mountains yesterday at noon during a hike with his friend Dimitar Nakov. Nakov, 40, is among our best defenders, started his football career at Petrich’s Belasitsa, then went through Pirin, Montana, Slavia, played in Kazakhstan and Cyprus. Nakov regularly takes mountain walks and climbs peaks in our mountains. He describes the incident with his friend as a ridiculous coincidence. There was new snow in Belasitsa and, in some places, intense ice formation.
Mountain rescuers from Sandanski and Blagoevgrad carried out a heavy operation lasting almost 20 hours, and this morning they managed to evacuate Emil. An examination at a Petrich hospital showed torn knee ligaments, abrasions and injuries to the chest.
