The 68-year-old former “Sopharma” director Asen Stoyanov, who died on the Bansko slope a few days ago, is an avid skier. The city has been the favorite place where he satisfied his passion for many years, writes “Telegraph”.
In retirement, he had more free time and spent more days on the slopes. He preferred to rent an apartment at the resort and took the gondola to the upper station. He then proceeded with a seat to the Meseta and the steep and dangerous track number 5, where he passed away.
Despite his age, he had the professional skills of a skier and the confidence to ride tough trails.
Stoyanov was flying at high speed on the track when he collided with another 35-year-old skier from Yakoruda, who had a broken leg after the accident.
Eyewitnesses tell what they saw in the fatal collision:
“We were going down the track, which is very steep and everything passed in front of our eyes. The two slalom at very high speed and collided almost head-on. They reported the incident at 10:55 am on PSS – Bansko. Mountain rescuers quickly arrived at the scene, including a specialist on duty from “Pirogov”, sent to the ski area.
They found the victim unconscious, but alive. She provided him with emergency resuscitation.
The man was intubated and hooked up to a heart rate monitor. He was transported by ambulance to Razlog Hospital, but died on the way.
The autopsy results are not ready yet, but doctors suggest that multiple fractures and traumatic brain injuries have caused death.
