Actress Maria Bakalova is the first Bulgarian to be nominated for a Golden Globe in one of the most prestigious categories: for the female lead role in a comedy or musical. This was announced a few minutes ago by Sarah Jessica Parker, who has won the prestigious statuette six times.
The 24-year-old girl played the role of Tutar, Sasha Baron Cohen’s daughter in the movie “Borat 2,” which was released in 2020.
In fact, it’s no big surprise that Bakalova is among the nominees alongside some of Hollywood’s biggest names like Kate Hudson and Michelle Pfeiffer. Almost all major foreign media predicted the Bulgarian’s success due to her great talent and improvisation ability, which she showed in “Borat 2”.
Bakalova was supposed to compete in the supporting, non-female category, but she followed the path taken by Catherine Zeta-Jones in 2003. Later, she was also transferred to the female lead due to her role in the movie “Chicago.”
