Like a street fight with many illegal tricks on the part of your opponent. This is how Tervel Pulev described his match against Vicapita Meroro at the gala evening in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania.
The Bulgarian won after his opponent surrendered in the penultimate ninth round. Thus, the younger brother Pulev remained undefeated in the professional ring after 16 matches.
“It was an ugly match for me personally, I’m not happy with the quality of the boxing. The referee allowed a foul game that we had to adapt to and play with his stones on the head. I don’t want to play with kicks to the neck and things that are prohibited and will be sanctioned anywhere else in the world. My arm hurts a little. This boy has a headache. It was a street fight, “Tervel said seconds after leaving the ring.
“The important thing is that we change tactics. They told me, ‘Go ahead.’ It doesn’t matter what I do. Our tactics are correct.” And we pushed it back in the later rounds. I tried to show the referee that he was holding me, but there was no official warning. And I kept up the pace and the tactic. Breathing is very high. I had to deal with it. My opponent is from Africa and he’s used to it, “he added.
With the victory, Tervel took another step towards his great goal: climbing the rankings and a world title fight in the light heavyweight category of the World Boxing Association (WBA) in late 2022.
“We need a mandatory rest. We can go on safari, said the organizers. Most likely we will do something exotic. I will not just sit in the hotel, rest and train,” revealed his plans for the next few days, younger brother Pulev . .
Inseparable next to him and in his corner during the meeting was Kubrat Pulev.
There were dozens of Bulgarians in the room, who chanted Tervel’s name and supported him with applause. Tanzania is a preferred destination because there are no strict measures to limit the spread of the coronavirus.
“I want to thank all Bulgarians for the great support from anywhere in the world and I want to tell them that I love them from the bottom of my heart. Bulgaria above all!” Tervel thanked them after the meeting.
