“So far there are no proven influenza viruses, which is unusual. In previous seasons, the flu epidemic generally began around this time of year. This was stated on” This Morning “on bTV by Prof. Nelly Korsun, head of the National Reference Laboratory “Influenza and Acute Respiratory Diseases” at the National Center for Infectious and Parasitic Diseases.

He explained that currently the circulation of influenza viruses in Europe is very low. Only 13 flu viruses were detected last week, which is terribly unusual.

According to Professor Korsun, this is due to anti-epidemic measures related to the coronavirus. They appear to have an effect on influenza viruses as well.

Regarding the new variant of the coronavirus, he explained that eight samples of people who arrived from the United Kingdom presented genetic changes characteristic of it.

“It is 50 to 70% more contagious than other genetic variants of the virus,” said Professor Nelly Korsun.

Regarding British Prime Minister Boris Johnson’s claim that it is deadlier, he commented that the increase in mortality is due not so much to the new option, but to the fact that hospitals are overcrowded and medical care cannot be provided in quality.

“In the United States, they expect this virus to become dominant there by the end of March. The European Center for Disease Control believes that the risk of spreading this genetic variant is very high,” explained Professor Korsun.
