Dozens of friends of Borislav Garibov, who died today under an avalanche in Pirin, express their condolences to his sister and parents. Bobo, an 18-year-old graduate, one of the best and most promising national freeride athletes, was covered by a huge mass of snow in one of the Banderishki gutters. Perfectly equipped, an experienced skier with many medals from international competitions, he lost the battle with the harsh mountains.
“Sad, very sad. A young man to whom life was ending with all its good things. And if there are those eternal white fields – light and sparkling powders! The most sincere condolences to relatives and all those close to him!”, Momchil wrote Panayotov, president of the Bulgarian Association of Freestyle and Extreme Skiing.

PSS issued an official announcement about the tragic and ridiculous incident: “A young man died today in a serious avalanche accident on the ditches of Banderishki in Pirin, above Bansko. The signal was received by the Mountain Rescue Service of the Bulgarian Red Cross (PSC at the Bulgarian Red Cross) at 11:28 a witness reported that a skier had fallen into an avalanche and needed help, and a group of three rescuers and a rescue dog was immediately organized, who managed to reach the victim on snowmobiles in 10 hours.On his arrival, they confirmed his death, took him out of the snowy masses, transferred his body and handed him over to the Emergency Medical Service and the Police.
In recent days there has been a lot of information about the complex avalanche situation. Underestimating mountain conditions is one of the most common mistakes that can lead to very serious accidents, sometimes fatal. The PSC of the Bulgarian Red Cross warns that the avalanche situation in the mountains remains complicated and recommends not taking risky outings off the marked ski slopes and winter tourist routes.
