A major fire broke out in a factory at the Serum Institute of India, which is the world’s largest producer of vaccines, Al Jazeera reported.
A source said that the production of coronavirus vaccines was not affected. Many fire crews were dispatched to the scene to control the flames. The huge complex is located in the city of Pune in western India.
The Indian Institute produces millions of doses of coronavirus vaccines developed by the University of Oxford and AstraZeneca for India and many other countries.
According to the information released, the fire occurred in a factory, which is still being built in the large facility. There is no information on injured persons. The cause of the great fire is not yet clear. A source from the institute told AFP that the incident would not affect vaccine production.
