The Bulgarian flag caught fire at a carnival in North Macedonia.

This happened at the end of the event in the village of Vevchani, when the masks are traditionally lit, writes the local television station Alsat, Nova TV reported.

According to the mayor of the village, the tension between the participants in the carnival has intensified due to the heavy presence of the police. This was the case because the festival was forbidden, but the villagers organized.

The Bulgarian Ministry of Foreign Affairs commented:

On the occasion of media reports about a burnt Bulgarian flag in the village of Vevchani in the Republic of North Macedonia, Deputy Prime Minister Ekaterina Zaharieva ordered the Bulgarian Ambassador to Skopje, Angel Angelov, to speak to the government of the Republic of North Macedonia our strong indignation at this act of vandalism.

Another provocation: VMRO-DPMNE supporters set the Bulgarian flag on fire

The announcement states that Ambassador Angelov has already made a harsh verbal management in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of North Macedonia.
