Barcelona qualified for the final of the Spanish Super Cup tournament, after winning 4: 3 on penalties from Real Sociedad. The regulation time of the match at the Nuevo Arcángel Stadium in Córdoba ended 1: 1.
On penalties, Antoine Griezmann failed to qualify his team for the next round by shooting over the gate. Before, the Basques made three consecutive passes for Ion Bautista, Mikel Ojarsabal and Willian Jose. The Basques tried to return a goal at the start of the second half and received a great gift from De Jong. The Barça striker played with his hand in the penalty area, and Mikel Ojarsabal calmly realized the penalty – 1: 1.
Literally in the next attack, De Jong thought he had corrected his mistake after being knocked down in the opponent’s penalty area. There was also slight confusion, but later the head referee ruled a foul in the attack.
The Catalans built two more good attacks in the following minutes, since in the 59th minute Griezmann sent the ball over the door, and four later Dembélé tried his luck with a rebound, but the ball passed over the right crossbar.
At the end of regulation time, Barça had more control of the ball. The Basques also had their chances, but in the end a new goal did not fall and the game was sent into extra time.
In the 94th minute, Saldua’s reserve fired a large projectile from 25 meters and directed the ball under the crossbar, but Ter Stegen managed to save impressively. The Basques came close to making a fatal mistake on the counterattack after Merino made a mistake taking the ball. However, Barça did not take advantage.
In the minute 100, the culés returned to put together a good attack, in which Dembélé stayed in a shooting position. However, the Frenchman sent the ball into the hands of Remiro. In the last ten minutes, Real Sociedad could have won. However, Oyarsabal did not take advantage of a good pass from Januzaj. The Belgian crashed off the crossbar from a free kick in the 118th minute.
