The European Union cannot afford to spend this year 2021 as 2020 did, with a failure in enlargement, said the Deputy Prime Minister for European Affairs of the Government of the Republic of North Macedonia, Nikola Dimitrov, in a festive interview to MINE. In the interview, he addressed the issues of the Bulgarian blockade, the Europeanization of the country, the request for censorship presented by the opposition and the administration’s readiness for the negotiation process, the daily Sloboden Pechat reported, BNR reported.

According to Dimitrov, Portugal, the rotating EU president, will be interested in continuing Germany’s enlargement efforts, and Berlin has also said it remains committed to the issue. When asked if he expected progress in talks with Bulgaria after the elections, scheduled for March, Dimitrov said that politically sensitive issues were more difficult to resolve before and during the campaign.

In the interview, Dimitrov points out that the Republic of North Macedonia has a real interest in Bulgaria for friendship and for overcoming differences. However, in their view, the issues raised by Bulgaria have no legal basis.

“After the end of the process at the United Nations, neither Bulgaria nor any other country in the world can tell us what language we speak. This is our job and, in that sense, the Treaty of Friendship says that we obviously have differences of context. Of history, we will form a commission of historians to discuss these differences, and we, as politicians and governments, will work for the future, cooperate and, among other things, count on the support of Bulgaria for the NATO membership that has happened and we are grateful for that. , and we will have your help on the European path, Article 2 of the Treaty of Friendship, ”said Dimitrov.
