A 51-year-old priest from Nova Zagora died on the way to the funeral of an elderly woman from the Kozarevo district of Tvarditsa. The tragic incident occurred today shortly after 12 noon on January 3 on the III-662 highway at km 24 + 200 in the land of Tvarditsa.
The Peugeot 206 car driven by Father Stefan Stoynov, who served mainly in the Church of the Assumption in Novi Zagorje, rolled off the road and rolled over into the nearby fields.
The driver was seriously injured and died while being transported to Dr. Ivan Seliminski Hospital in Sliven. Hours before the tragedy, Father Stefan celebrated a liturgy in the other church in Tvarditsa, where he was called by the death of the old woman and promised to sing for her, writes Monitor.
According to eyewitnesses, the priest’s car was literally crushed and the body had to be cut to remove the seriously injured driver.
Pre-trial proceedings have started.
