Haralan Alexandrov: I know people from the protests who are now ashamed of their actions – Society

A year of breadth: this is how political scientist Dimitar Ganev and social anthropologist Haralan Alexandrov summed up the past 2020 in the BTV study.

The two events that marked the country’s political horizon were the coronavirus crisis and the protests against the government.

Thus, while at the beginning of the pandemic the levels of confidence in the government increased dramatically, after a few months, amid the protests, they fell again.

The crown of chaos: this was 2020

And yet, however bleak 2020 may seem to us, according to Dimitar Ganev, we are leaving the year with positive news.

“We have finished with the second wave in Bulgaria. The data that we see in the first days is especially optimistic. We must praise the authorities, because our neighbors, such as Greece, cannot boast of the same. On the contrary, they are tightening the measures. The second good news is that with good organization, a country like Israel managed to vaccinate 1 million people in just a few weeks and has requested to be able to vaccinate more than 80% of the population at the end of February, “Ganev commented.

340 newly infected with coronavirus in our country and another 40 died

And according to Haralan Alexandrov, the measures imposed by the government during last year’s pandemic provoked “severe childish behavior on the part of individuals and entire groups.”

“What we have discovered is that one of the new functions of the government is to be hated. I would say that the government has handled this role very well. It suffered great coups and attacks, it remained calm, it continued to function in the midst of the so-called” popular uprisings. “. (…) One of the great successes is that Borisov gave a correct interpretation of what is happening – he managed to behave with people who demanded his resignation, threw eggs, threatened, etc., as well as with children who have been gone crazy and should let them fend for themselves. And this turned out to be a correct interpretation, because most of these people calmed down, and some of them, whom I know personally, are a bit ashamed of the obscene gestures and in some ugly sense to which they were given, ”Alexandrov said.
