Seismologist: Croatian earthquakes may cause earthquake in Bulgaria
“It is quite possible that the earthquakes in Croatia could lead to an earthquake in Bulgaria or elsewhere in the Balkans, because we are on the same plate.”
According to him, NIGGG registered two aftershocks in Croatia with a magnitude of 4.7 to 4.8 on the Richter scale at BAS.
The earthquakes were superficial and therefore felt too strong.
This is typical for the region, Kirilov said. The seismologist hopes there will be no more strong earthquakes in the area, but noted that he cannot predict this accurately.
“I hope that these are aftershocks and that they gradually decrease. This with aftershocks is good, because tension is released below the surface of the earth,” Kirilov said. “It is very possible that the earthquakes in Croatia could cause an earthquake in Bulgaria or elsewhere in the Balkans, because we are on the same plane,” said the seismologist.
