Just over 60 percent of the citizens of the Republic of North Macedonia who participated in the M Prospect survey oppose the signing of an annex to the Neighborhood Agreement with Bulgaria, which would ensure that Skopje has no territorial claims against Bulgaria. in its internal affairs and will also not touch on other issues, including identity and nationality, according to the Macedonian Express website.
According to the survey, 33.5% agree with this annex, while 61.9% oppose it.
4% do not know and 0.6% of the respondents refused to answer the question.
As for whether the problem with Bulgaria will be overcome and when to continue with the process of European integration of our southwestern neighbor, 30.7% believe that this will never happen.
They are followed by those who believe that the resolution of the dispute will take between one and five years (21.8%), while 15.2% of those surveyed believe that this will happen in less than a year. For 15%, the dispute will be resolved in a few months, while the opinion of 13.4% is that it will take more than 5 years.
Meanwhile, President Stevo Pendarovski also said an annex was not necessary. In an interview with local national television, quoted by BTA, he added that the Skopje authorities had tried to explain to their Bulgarian counterparts “that if they were our place, they would not want to negotiate on certain things.”
“Language and identity are basic human rights and no one can tell you who you are and what you are like,” Pendarovski added.
