Barcelona ended the year disappointing, with a 1: 1 at home against Eibar. Lionel Messi watched the game from the stands due to injury, and in his absence the Catalans did not do enough to take three such important points.
Kike put Eibar ahead in the 57th minute after a terrible mistake in the Barça defense, and Usman Dembélé leveled at 67. Another “spectacle” was had by Martin Braithwaite, who did not hit the door with a penalty, and then his goal was annulled by an ambush. The Danish striker failed in several more advantageous positions.
Thus, Barcelona remains in sixth place in La Liga with only 25 points after their first 15 games of the season. Eibar is 14th with 16 points.
The team’s coach, Ronald Koeman, again bet on a 3-5-2 scheme, with Pedri, Antoine Griezmann and Martin Braithwaite leading the way.
The game could have started in a dreamy way for Barça, since in minute 5 after the VAR manifestation the main referee sanctioned a penalty for an infraction to Araujo in the penalty area. Braithwaite took the ball and didn’t hit the door.
Twenty minutes later, the Dane had a second chance to score and even realized it after a good cross from Firpo from the left wing. Seconds later, however, his goal was annulled by an ambush, after the VAR showed that the attacker was in an irregular position by centimeters.
In the 33rd minute, Pedry tried to find Braithwaite with a strong cross in the penalty area, but the striker missed inches off the ball. At the end of the first half, the Catalans tied a nice gradual attack and Griezmann was left alone on the edge of the penalty area. However, the Frenchman could not find the outline of the door.
For the start of the second half, Kuman released Usman Dembele, who refreshed Barça’s attack. Only during the first ten minutes after the resumption of the game, the culés created three advantageous situations, but Dembélé, Griezmann and again Dembélé did not realize.
Thus came minute 57, when Eibar went ahead after a terrible mistake by Araujo. The defender slowed down the ball and Kike managed to knock it down and jump alone against Ter Stegen. The experienced doorman caught on in cold blood and made a sensational breakthrough to the guests.
Barça managed to return to the game 10 minutes later. After a beautifully constructed attack, the active Firpo broke down the left wing and crossed the ground to the far post. There, Dembélé found the ball well and caught Dmitrovich in one step, sending him into the far corner – 1: 1.
Soon after, Braithwaite was able to score a comical goal after Dmitrovich kicked the ball straight into the Dane’s body after a strong cross from the right wing. After the bounce that followed, he walked inches from the beam.
Barça kept pushing until the end, but never fell naked. In the 85th minute Pedri found himself alone in the penalty spot, but sent the ball over the crossbar. A short time later, Coutinho had a great opportunity, but did not find the outline of the door.
In the 92nd minute, Trinkao hit several guest defenders and when he was alone against Dmitrović, he fired too vaguely down the diagonal.
