The death of a 12-year-old girl has been confirmed. A 20-year-old man from a town near Glina also died, the information site “Index” reported, cited by BTA. He was buried under the ruins of his home, the settlement’s mayor confirmed to the “24sata” website.

This is the second strong earthquake in the region in the last 24 hours. Yesterday a magnitude of 4.9 was registered on the Richter scale, and the epicenter was very close to today. The quake was also felt in neighboring Slovenia, where a nuclear power plant was shut down as a safety measure.

24 hours after a strong earthquake struck the Zagreb area, a new, even stronger earthquake struck Croatia. The city of Petrinya, which is still at its epicenter, is collapsing. The images of rescuing a child in minutes manage to travel around the world. Unfortunately, another boy lost his life under the ruins of Petrinya. According to initial information, it is a 12-year-old girl.

“The city is practically in ruins. And now people are digging. There is also a dead child, I suppose there will be many injured ”, explained the Bulgarian ambassador in Zagreb Genka Georgieva.

Near the epicenter of the earthquake is again the family of soccer player Vanya Djaferovic. We contacted him minutes after the earthquake.

“It was much stronger now. Yesterday it was about 5-6 seconds. Now at least 30 seconds. In a sense, initially there were 10-15 seconds, which was really strong, things fell into the house. We quickly recovered and went out. .. when we went outside, there were fallen roofs, things, bricks, now the older buildings will certainly have it. “I don’t know what Zagreb cathedral is like,” he said.

The earthquake near Zagreb: a first-person story

There is no electricity or communications in Petrinja, and thousands are desperately trying to connect with their loved ones. The earthquake was also felt very strongly on the border between Croatia and Slovenia, say our compatriots.

“It was quite scary, the buildings began to shake, from below, as if under your feet it roars. And everyone who was here ran off naturally. There is nothing you can do, considering that yesterday morning it shook us again and it’s quite scary, ”shared Ivanka Kasavelcheva, a worker from Croatia.

Slovenia’s nuclear power plant was closed as a precautionary measure. In the second largest city, Maribor, the earthquake is felt very strongly. The local television station crew was evacuated from the building and the program continues to be recorded, journalist Matei Korosek told NOVA.

“Everything started shaking in our office, the computers, the tables. That is why we had to evacuate our building for safety. There was also a shortage of electricity throughout the country, so we transmitted with a generator, many people were without electricity during about an hour, because the nuclear power plant is in southern Slovenia, and there the earthquake felt very strong, “he said.

There are no reports of casualties in Slovenia, but people’s fears are high. This is the third earthquake in the region since the beginning of this year. Today’s earthquake is the strongest yet.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced that there is no data on injured Bulgarian citizens. The authorities are evaluating the material damage. The earthquake was also felt in Serbia and Bosnia and Herzegovina and Slovenia.
