Eight workers at a nursing home in Germany were accidentally injected with five doses of the Covid-19 vaccine, but have so far suffered no serious adverse effects, AFP reported.

The seven women and one man, aged 38 to 54, worked at a retirement home in the north-eastern German city of Stralsund.

They are in the priority group and are among the first to receive the Pfizer / BioNTech vaccine against Covid-19, which Germany began injecting over the weekend.

But when they were vaccinated on Sunday, they each received five times the dose at a time, said Stefan Kert, manager of the area where the facility is located.

They were immediately notified of the error, Kurt said. Four were admitted to the hospital for follow-up with mild flu-like symptoms, while the others were sent home.

“I am deeply sorry for this incident,” Kurt said, adding that the error was a single case and came down to human error.

“I hope that all those affected do not suffer serious side effects,” he said.

Before launching vaccination campaigns in several European countries over the weekend, the German company BioNTech said that during the experiments higher than normal doses were injected without serious side effects. The vaccine, designed in less than a year and designed to be given in two injections, is supplied in vials, each with five doses.
