They sing “Mafia”, threatening to take off their masks
Dozens of Bulgarians rioted at Edinburgh airport on Sunday night after being asked for negative PCR tests to board a Ryanair flight to Sofia.
This is clear from the images of the incident disseminated on social networks. The videos show people chanting “Sofia”, “Mafia” and asking them to remove their masks, some even doing so while the Scottish police try to bring order. A man threatens to personally call Prime Minister Boyko Borissov so they can fly.
In the end, after long telephone conversations with the Bulgarian embassy in London, our compatriots were able to board the plane.
Other Bulgarians said a similar incident occurred during a flight by the same company from London on Sunday.
The confusion is due to the two different regimes for the admission of travelers from the United Kingdom, which the Bulgarian authorities established after allowing the resumption of flights between the United Kingdom and our country, previously suspended due to the discovery of a highly contagious strain of coronavirus in the island.
At the end of this year they will undergo rapid antigen tests upon landing in our country, and as of January 1 they will present the result of a negative PCR test carried out up to 72 hours before the flight.
The British government website claims that travelers to Bulgaria may not be able to obtain such a document as British laboratories are currently overcrowded and will then have to isolate themselves 10 days after arrival.
According to compatriots who will have flights to their homeland in the coming days, the airlines themselves have begun to require PCR from travelers to Bulgaria and have received warning messages. A “24-hour” check found that on the “Ryanair” site there is already a special search engine through which its customers can find out which laboratories are closest to them, doing tests before the flight.
