The Islamic religion in Bosnia and Herzegovina has advised Muslims not to use coronavirus vaccines that contain ingredients of porcine origin, according to the Macedonian website Netpress.

Pork gelatin is used as a stabilizer and provides the vaccine during transport and storage. Muslims are strictly prohibited from eating pork and its derivatives.

“Muslims are obliged to prefer vaccines that do not contain swine gelatin,” said the office of the chief mufti of Bosnia and Herzegovina.

The Sarajevo announcement comes a day after the British Muslim Medical Association announced that swine gelatin is likely to be used in most vaccines due to high demand, supply chains, costs and shorter shelf life. . The manufacturers explained that they could not guarantee that their vaccines did not contain porcine gelatin.
