BDZ’s new locomotives “Siemens Smartron”, named “Asparuh” and “Tervel” are already running on the railway lines from Sofia to Varna and Burgas.

The machines weigh 80 tons, but they are quieter than their predecessors and develop a speed of up to 160 kilometers per hour.

Nikolay Hristov is one of the few Bulgarian drivers who have already sat in the cab and can share their impressions: “It is very easy to control. The whole locomotive is digitized. With the controllers on the locomotive the information is set up on the computer. The computer itself controls the mechanical clock, “he explains. him in front of Nova TV.

Skoda has been used in Bulgaria for decades, which Nikolai is compared to. “The new locomotives are insured and designed for the driver’s comfort. Air-conditioned, heated, with hermetic doors. The emphasis is on being able to control the train, ”he said.

The Smartron locomotive safety systems are of the latest generation. There is also the well-known surveillance system, explains Nikolay Hristov, adding: “The pedal is depressed every few seconds. We have to release the pedal and press it again. The surveillance system secures the train when the driver falls asleep, in case of fatigue. or driver fainting. ” In such cases, the system automatically stops the train. Safety comes first and it’s guaranteed. “

The Asparuh and Tervel machines are the first new machines in the last 30 years.

“Every month two will arrive first, then one, until they become a total of 15,” Transport Minister Rosen Zhelyazkov said a few days ago.
