The new “British” strain of coronavirus has been found in 8 European countries. This was announced today on Twitter by the head of the European branch of the WHO, Hans Kluge.
It is vital to strengthen existing measures against the spread of COVID-19, he said.
Kluge asked for distance and masks.
He added that the new strain is likely to spread more among younger people.
This month a new mutation was identified in the coronavirus, which is spreading faster, in the UK. It is believed that it may be the reason for the sharp increase in the number of infected in the southeastern part of the island.
The new strain is estimated to be 70% more contagious, but so far there are no data on its impact on mortality or the percentage of hospitalized.

The variant also appears to be spreading among the younger age groups, unlike previous strains. Surveillance is important while research is being conducted to define its impact. #UnitedActionForBetterHealth
