Warm warming across the country begins Wednesday. This was told to Novini.bg by climatologist Prof. Georgi Rachev.

It will be hot on Christmas Eve and Christmas, temperatures in Sofia can reach 10 degrees and in southeastern Bulgaria, up to 13 degrees, he added.

This is the warm air flow that will precede a strong influx of colder air that will begin on Christmas Eve. The invasion of colder air will be combined with a Mediterranean cyclone, creating the perfect environment for heavy rains.

At first, the precipitation will be rain, and in the high fields of western Bulgaria, the Fore-Balkans and the Danube plain on December 26 the rain will turn to snow. Rainfall will be abundant, in many places it will exceed 20 liters per square meter, and in the Fore-Balkans and the Rhodopes it can reach 40-50 liters per square meter.

Saturday will continue to be warm, with highs of 5-10 degrees. Serious cooling will be observed on Sunday, when temperatures above 900 meters above sea level will be close to zero and negative. Then a layer of snow will form, in the low places a few centimeters, and in the Fore-Balkans it will be 10-15 centimeters. A new layer of snow will accumulate in the mountains, said Professor Rachev.

From Friday night to Sunday, the weather will be dynamic, with ubiquitous rainfall, first from rain and then from snow. Warming continues, in the little snow it will melt.

A miniature disturbance awaits us on New Year’s Eve, with little rain in the lowlands, the climatologist said.

In early January a garland of Mediterranean cyclones is expected, which will affect the climate in our country, said Professor Georgi Rachev.
