The Republic of Bulgaria will donate part of each shipment of COVID-19 vaccines, which it has purchased directly from producers, in North Macedonia. The relevant decision was made on the morning of the day of the government meeting in Sofia, which was addressed by the Macedonian Minister of Health Venko Filipce. This was announced by the Skopje electronic publication Republika, cited by the FOCUS news agency.
With this decision, vaccines against COVID-19 will arrive in Bulgaria at the same time as other EU member states. Bulgaria, as a member of the EU, had the privilege of negotiating directly with various producers. “Thanks to this act of friendship, with this donation, we will soon begin the vaccination process and facilitate access to vaccines so that we can vaccinate between 60 and 70% of the population,” he said.
According to information from the health authorities of the Republic of Bulgaria, the Pfizer vaccine will be delivered first to Sofia, then Moderna and finally Astra Zeneka, Filipche wrote on the social network Facebook. In addition to a donation from the Republic of Bulgaria, vaccines will be provided to North Macedonia through the Covax mechanism. The European Union has provided 400 million vaccines to member states and an additional 100 million to non-EU countries. So far, Poland and Greece have offered this kind of help to our southwestern neighbor. North Macedonia is negotiating direct delivery of vaccines with manufacturers and from them, Filipce wrote.
