Bulgarians who have temporary residence status in the UK but have returned home due to the coronavirus crisis may lose it if they have been absent from the UK for more than 6 months and do not visit for at least one day until end of the year.

The3million, an organization that defends the rights of Europeans on the island, has launched an awareness campaign on the issue, as it believes that many people do not know it and will suffer. There is already a program on your website through which you can check if you are in danger.

The hardest hit are expected to be students who have chosen to study online. If they have not visited the UK for more than 6 months and lose their status, next year they will need an additional £ 800 for a visa and a fee for inclusion in British healthcare. The Interior Ministry said exceptions would be made for longer absences, but the reasons must be as serious as an illness or coronavirus infection, which have been documented.

So far, 197,550 Bulgarians have received resident status, and for 116,390 it is temporary, since they do not have the necessary 5 years of life in the country.
