The road through the Iskar Gorge looks like a lunar landscape, after more than a million tracks have traversed it in half a year. The craters are huge, there are holes everywhere and the effect is crashes, flat tires and crooked wheels.
All heavy traffic traveling from Vidin, Montana and Vratsa to Sofia and vice versa was diverted to the second class Rebarkovo – Lyutibrod – Zverino – Elysee road for about half a year, until December 12. The reason was the widening of the international highway E-79 Sofia – Vidin in the section between Rebarkovo and Lyutibrod.
For five days, traffic has been restored on the E-79 route for all vehicles and this allows to start repairing the section in the Iskar gorge in the territory of the Vratsa district, the Road Infrastructure Agency announced a few hours later of the transmission of the television report.
“I travel 150 every morning – 200 kilometers in the area. The road has become impossible to cross. Holes have been ripped open, tires break every minute, rims break. I personally accept this as a threat to my life. I feed 10 villages every morning. I came to town, I have two children. Where will my life be in danger? “Ivan, a Lyutibrod resident, complained to bTV.
Peter from the village says there was another accident on the road on Wednesday night: two cars with flat tires. “It is impossible to move. We need roadside assistance, there is a car that has crashed every day. Tires are cracked: front, rear, deformed rims “he added.
People are not happy about having to go through potholes after paying for vignettes, taxes and insurance.
The mayor of Rebarkovo village, Petar Petkov, explains that the road through his village is also damaged.
“There are dozens of holes in the settlement. The bridge, which is near the town hall, is also damaged; the pavement is cracking, I can’t say about the foundation.”he said.
Vesselin Nikolov, director of the Regional Highway Administration in Vratsa, explained that on the way more than one million within six months.
“An assessment of the damage has been prepared. Funds in the amount of BGN 340,000 are expected. They will be used at the appropriate time.“, Nikolov said. He is not committed to a deadline, but he hopes it will happen soon.
The road was mainly paved in 2014 and people ask why the pavement collapsed so quickly. The district highway chief did not respond to this question and the highway agency is silent for now. Probably because the repair was not designed for such a load.

The reaction of the road agency was not late and in the afternoon the message was spread that the repairs were beginning and the necessary 340,000 BGN were provided from the RIA budget.
“The road maintenance company in charge of the national roads in the Vratsa district has been ordered to work in a mobilized way to be able to take full advantage of the current weather conditions and to improve the operational status of the route in the short term “, it says in the RIA message.
Roads in Vratsa district are maintained by the “Northwest” association, which includes “PST Group”, “Paicom Bulgaria” and “Mizoti” EOOD.
