A family with two children was not miraculously injured when rocks collapsed on their car in Republic Pass, bTV reported.
Irena and Dimitar Solakovi live in Voneshta Voda village and have to travel to Veliko Tarnovo twice a day.
In just 10 days, the Solakovi family for the second time missed a rock mass collapse on the same stretch of road. The first time the rocks fell in front of his car, and the second time, on Saturday night, they managed to hit him.
Dimitar said that while driving, he saw a stone fall in front of him in the dark. “It fell to our left and I turned the car as far to the right as possible. Most of the stones hit our car. We were very scared, we were in the car with our children, but thank God we were fine,” he said.
Dimitar explains that there is no serious damage because the car has not stopped.
“Terrible horror. Only the quick reactions and luck of my husband miraculously saved us. This is the second time in 10 days. For me, it is a sign that there is a problem,” said Irena.
The director of the regional road administration, engineer Ventsislav Angelov, said that the teams of the road administration make a daily tour of this section of the road. “The main problem is the over-wetting of the land due to thawing and heavy rains. This process can be prevented and we have safety nets all over the land. In spring and autumn we have groups that inspect the area and, if necessary, collapse” . He explained.
Ing. Angelov also said that for 2021 the highway agency has prepared a project to stabilize the slopes.
