14 pregnant chamois have been brutally killed in Pirin Park, environmentalist Toma Belev, who is also the director of the Parks Association, warned on Facebook. The drama took place in the Kamenica area.
Belev posted photos in his post on the social network.
“Killing a pregnant female is barbaric. Killing 14 wild goats is great barbarism. Freaks. Not just those who have shot. Also those who manage nature conservation, but don’t distinguish beech from oak. And the Those who hand out hunting concessions on the edge of national parks. And those who vote for the parks budget, who pay a salary of 600 lev to the rangers to hunt down poachers. Freaks. Freaks “, Belev wrote below the photos. On Tuesday, the Pirin National Park Directorate announced that an investigation had been launched into the case of photos of 14 pregnant chamois slaughtered in the park published on social media. The Union of Hunters and Fishermen also commented on the case, saying the photos released by conservationist Toma Belev are likely from the spring, as it is currently nearly impossible for females to be in such a late pregnancy.
Belev claims to have received the photos from an acquaintance, who, however, denied further information. Chamois is a “protected species”, and the killing of such an animal is punishable by up to 5 years in prison.
The Hunters and Fishermen’s Union recalls that they have repeatedly proposed amendments to the Penal Code to increase penalties for poaching, as well as to clarify texts that the defendants’ lawyers often use to avoid effective sanctions.
